Andressa Lawisch

Andressa Pacheco Lawisch, born 1991 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

A painter, she works on a large scale. She is interested in images of ruins, whether old architecture or architectural demolition. Her painting begins from photographs taken while walking through Porto Alegre or travelling in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul and abroad. In the structures of these buildings she finds what motivates her work: traces that hold potential as painting. These specific qualities are essential to provoking a pictorial thinking through patches of colour, allowing the painting to develop through successive layers while leaving the making visible on the canvas, along with the trace of the brushstrokes.
