Herbert César Pereira Lima, known artistically as César Lima, is a visual artist born in Cariacica, Espírito Santo, where he lives and works.
He began painting at thirteen. His work follows the canons of naïve painting, with vibrant colour, simplified line and a deliberate indifference to academic proportion and perspective. His subject is the representation and cultural symbolism of his home state, Espírito Santo. In his paintings — always in vivid colour — he depicts local festivities, the state's historic architecture, and sacred, religious and popular art.
