Heitor Dutra

Heitor Dutra is a visual artist born in Recife, Pernambuco.
He holds a BA in Film and Audiovisual Studies and is a master's candidate in Design at the Federal University of Pernambuco. His studio, Pangeia, is described as vital to his creative process. His artistic language is hybrid and experimental, working with the physicality of materials — exploring the volume, density and relief of paint, as well as the texture of collage. His work addresses dialogues between the body — especially the male body — pop culture, queer art, Eurocentrism and references to classical art.
A visual artist and performer, Heitor works primarily in painting. He brings together images from distinct visual repertoires, crossed by the hierarchy imposed by tradition: classical Western iconography joined by sweet wrappers, the imagery of decorative arts and gay eroticism. In a process of collage and painting, these affected images — appropriated or created by the artist — are placed in a relation of conflict that unfolds into a potentially decorative unity. He is also a member of Risco!, an experimental group for free drawing and performance.
