Mauro Verde

Mauro Verde's work follows the canons of naïve painting, with vibrant colour, simplified line and a deliberate indifference to academic proportion and perspective. His subject is the representation and cultural symbolism of Bahia, and especially of the Pelourinho district in Salvador. In his paintings — always in vivid colour — he depicts Bahian festivities and the state's historic architecture, with a strong presence of Bahian symbolic and cultural elements.
