About the artist
Born in Salvador and living in Plataforma, in the city's railway suburb, Mário Vasconcelos graduated in Fine Arts from the School of Fine Arts at UFBA and is a master's candidate in the postgraduate programme in visual arts. He is currently a substitute lecturer at the School of Fine Arts, a member of the Hybrid Art research group, curator of the independent magazine Gravidade and a member of the Nois Cria collective.
His work moves across many techniques, languages and supports, crossed by the signs of the African diaspora, developing work that engages ancestry and collective and individual experience in the present. He has received awards and taken part in group exhibitions nationally and internationally. His first solo show was held at the ACBEU Gallery in 2016.
