About the artist
Walter Pimentel, born 1999 in Goiânia, Goiás, lives and works in Goiânia.
He holds a BA in Visual Arts from FAV/UFG. Considered one of the revelations of the new generation of artists in Goiás, he works in oil on canvas and gouache on paper with strong brushwork, thick layers of paint and marked chromatic expressiveness, in a poetics that moves between the lyrical, the personal and the documentary.
His painting is predominantly figurative, evoking family scenes drawn from an expressive body of old photographs of his maternal family, taken between the 1930s and the 1980s. The artist explores the materiality of the figure as a way of spiritualising matter and reflecting on collective and personal memory.
