About the artist

Born in Tanque Novo, Bahia, 1982. He lives and works in Salvador, Bahia.

He investigates the ambivalent relations between otherness and the particular in human affairs, opening the way to metaphors drawn from drives, psychic states and the substrata of a personal imaginary that forms the repertoire of his work. Fábio Magalhães's work provokes fascination and repulsion, never indifference. It results from a process of conception and realisation that passes through fiction and the photographic act before arriving at the final work — paintings and objects. The artist presents meticulously planned stagings, capable of blurring the limits of perception, configured as images of distorted reality and disquieting contours. His work thus gathers a set of operations in which it crosses the barriers of the self until it meets the Other, the Being.
