About the artist
Maxim Malhado was born in Ibicaraí, Bahia, on 15 January 1967. He lives in Massarandupió, Bahia, and is represented by Paulo Darzé Galeria.
He graduated in Physical Education from the Catholic University of Salvador in 1987, took courses in drawing, sculpture and printmaking at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro and at the workshop of the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia, and holds a teaching degree in Drawing and Plastic Arts from the School of Fine Arts at UFBA.
He began exhibiting in 1995 and was awarded seven times at the Bahia Regional Salons; in 2001 he received the Acquisition Prize at the 8th Salon of the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia. He was selected for Itaú Cultural — Rumos Visuais 2001–2003 and in 2004 took part in the 26th São Paulo International Biennial. Other exhibitions include the National Salon of Goiás, the National Art Salon of Pará and the National Salon of Curitiba. His work is held in the collections of the ACBEU Gallery, the Projeto Salvador Porto e Mar (Codeba), the Centro Cultural Dannemann in São Félix, the Brazil–Germany Cultural Institute (ICBA) in Salvador and the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia. He has also taken part in the Montevideo Biennial in Uruguay.
